In a New Role, Teachers move to Run Schools. (response requested)

For October's LT
Read the NY Times article.

This is a topic near and dear to my heart, as this is an ultimate goal of mine.

Questions to consider for a response:
Can/should teachers run schools? Is there value in it? Would a teacher run school run better? Would this influence teacher effectiveness, effort, and attitude?

  1. I honestly think this is a good idea, to keep those ideals and views that a teacher holds in an administrative position. However, speaking from a teacher's standpoint, I find it impossible to allocate enough time to yourself and lesson planning while still running a school, its staff and its students.

While this a great dream, a more realistic solution would be to demand principals have x number of years as a teach first.
