  1. Visual Web-Identity & Conflict Project
World Geography: Unit 6 Middle East & Northern Africa http://www.visualthesaurus.com/

    GLEs:
Explain how location, physical features, and human characteristics of places influenced historical events (e.g., World War II, Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, Middle East conflicts) (G-1B-H2)
Explain ways in which regional systems are interconnected (e.g., interstate transportation and trade, interconnecting rivers and canals) (G-1B-H3)
Analyze world regions in terms of given characteristics (e.g., population density, natural resources, economic activities, demography) (G-1B-H3)
Compare the role that culture plays in incidents of cooperation and conflict in the present day world (G-1C-H4)
Assess the role of environmental changes, economic scarcity, conflict, political developments, cultural factors, and prosperity in human migration (e.g., escape from persecution or famine, migration to the suburbs) (G-1C-H2)
Analyze how certain cultural characteristics can link or divide regions (e.g., language, religion, demography) (G-1C-H4)
Analyze regional issues and alliances in terms of common interests related to territory and resources (e.g., oil, water, boundaries) (G-1C-H6)
Analyze the role of differing points of view and national self-interest in disputes over territory and resources (e.g., oil, water, boundaries) (G-1C-H6)

As part of this unit, students will explore their own cultures and identities as a way of explanding their understanding of perspectives (and the role of culture) on the Middle East and the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict. Moreover, students will connect their own identities to conflict that they have had in their lives and to local conflicts in the US and around the world. This web chart will be part of a unit-long project on identity in which students will be asked to show identity and culture in numberous ways. This website will allow students to see what a vocabulary/word web looks like so that they can adopt the style for their projects. More important, however, is that it will allow them to make connections between key terms like "culutre" and "identity" and to build upon their knowledge and understanding of these complex terms.

  2. Hey All! Topic: The Four Factors of Production
One online source that I have recently used is http://www.learnnc.org/lp/pages. The site has given me some great lesson plan ideas and resource ideas both semesters in social studies. For instance, I used the site about two weeks ago to get an idea for a lesson plan on teaching the four factors of production. From the candy bar exercise/idea I got from the site, I was able to make the lesson more engaging- and candy is always an incentive for students in the classroom. (Incentive is also a word they learned!).
The GLE that was covered under the assignment using the online resource was GLE 29.
    Check it out!

    BTW:
GLE 29: Explain the role of factors of production in the economy (E-1B-H2)
